Olivet Academy Elementary School proudly launched its Coding Club as an afterschool activity three years ago, and recently marked the completion of the second semester for the 2024–2025 school year.

Throughout the semester, students in grades 3 through 5 made exciting progress in their coding journeys. Third graders strengthened their understanding of basic coding concepts by developing their own maze games using Scratch, a block-based visual programming language designed for beginners. Meanwhile, fourth and fifth graders took a leap into the world of artificial intelligence by integrating AI features into their Scratch projects—such as moving game characters with facial recognition or hand gestures, allowing computers to interact with human input in creative ways.

The school firmly believes that coding education is essential for preparing students for the future—one where AI and humanoid technology will be a common part of daily life. By learning to code, students not only build technical skills but also develop critical thinking and creativity.

The third semester of the Coding Club will begin after spring break and continue through the end of the school year. During this time, students will complete any unfinished projects and dive deeper into advanced coding concepts.

Olivet Academy looks forward to seeing the continued growth and innovation from its young coders as they build the skills that will shape tomorrow’s world.
