Olivet Academy’s Elementary faculty and staff held a professional development session with Thinking Matters, an international educational organization that supports schools with a pedagogical approach to develop metacognitive, self-regulating “meta-learners.”

A “meta-learner” is a student who develops behaviors such as reflective, critical and creative thinking, as well as learning dispositions that will be reflected in students demonstrating independent and co-operative learning skills, high levels of achievement and both enjoyment and satisfaction in learning, the presenter explained.

“Olivet Academy is very interested in working with this organization based on the extensive evidence-based research about the benefits of metacognition in student learning. Our principal was very happy to find an organization that specializes in training and supporting K-12 schools at whatever level they are,” shared Director Claire Mendoza. “Our goal for this professional development session was to present to teachers what this approach is about.”

The school plans to engage in a long-term collaboration with Thinking Matters to provide school-wide training of Faculty and staff, tools and strategies, as well as metrics to attain a “Thinking School” accreditation status.

Please pray for the continuous growth and development of the Academic Department in Olivet Academy.
