On the second day of winter break, the ESL program at Olivet Academy in Amenia hosted a movie trip and fellowship for students, including both current and former English Language Learners. Teachers gave thanks to God for the favorable weather and smooth travel throughout the day.
Students enjoyed watching Zootopia 2 together at a nearby cinema, followed by a simple time of fellowship in the school cafeteria with homemade milk tea and snacks.
For many of our English Language Learners—especially new students—this trip was not primarily about discussion or structured activities, but about presence and community. Sharing a common experience, resting together after months of study, and being warmly welcomed into a group are meaningful steps in building trust and a sense of belonging.
“We hope our ESL program can support students not only in developing English proficiency and academic skills, but also in growing in confidence, connection, and a sense of belonging within our school community,” shared program director Ms. Jamie Pan. “Organizing an off-campus experience like this requires thoughtful planning and teamwork, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed behind the scenes—from coordination and transportation to caring for students throughout the day.”
