On February 11th, the 11th-grade students at OAC Amenia participated in a lab session focused on Precipitation Reactions, specifically exploring the formation of solids. During the experiment, students worked with various ionic compound solutions, carefully observing how different precipitates formed at various spots on the reaction surface. This hands-on activity deepened their understanding of double replacement reactions and how ionic compounds interact to produce new substances. By meticulously following the steps of the experiment, students demonstrated their ability to identify and explain the reactions occurring in real-time.
After the experiment, Jade Kim shared her thoughts:
“The lab is always interesting and refreshing. There are so many chemicals I don’t know, yet they exist worldwide. When I mix chemicals and observe chemical reactions, I feel closer to the real world. I’m thankful for the lab preparations that allow us to have these experiences this year.”
Ezra Yu also reflected on the lab:
“I was quite happy doing today’s lab. In the past few labs, I had no idea what was going on since we hadn’t learned about polyatomic ions or double replacement reactions yet. But this time, I felt much more prepared and could understand a lot better. Seeing everything that T. Joyce prepared for today’s lab made me realize that this isn’t something to take for granted. The preparation for previous labs was just as good, but I didn’t fully appreciate how much work went into it. The tube racks, the individual tubes, and the prepared solutions—these didn’t just appear out of nowhere; someone had to set them up for us. Even though it’s school-funded, I can imagine how much effort it takes to organize everything. It’s easy to take it for granted or even complain about the worksheets, but instead, I should be thankful. I truly appreciate having a chemistry teacher who puts in so much effort to help us learn and enjoy the class, even though it can be difficult and tedious for many students. I really love chemistry class!”
Teacher Joyce was deeply encouraged by this feedback and reflection. Please continue to pray for the science teaching and for students to grow in their learning and understanding of God’s wonderful creation.
