Middle and high school students from grades 6th-10th completed their music performance final tests on Monday, June 17th highlighting the importance of harmony and the strength that comes from worshiping God.

High school students shared about their struggles to harmonize during practice. However, at the time of the test, despite the nerves, they were surprised to realize that their hard work actually turned into good results and the voices blended very well together. “I think this is our goal, our goal is to have good harmony,” one student reflected.

Students also discovered the power of worshipping God in bringing joy and strength.

“The thing that I got inspired by was specifically the lyrics to our song. When our group first decided that we were going to perform this song, I was really happy because it was the one I wanted to do more than our other option. I felt very strengthened and encouraged reading the lyrics,” shared a 10th-grade student.

Another classmate shared: “I was inspired by the other members in the choir because we sang ‘be strong’ to each other and it gave me a lot of strength to lay down everything before God so that I could be strong in Him. I should learn more dynamics and come up with more ideas of buildup next time.”

Many students commented of each other’s performances of being touching, amazing, encouraging, creative and a success.

Music teacher Pastor Mifa Kim explained that students in grades 9 and 10 learned how to create harmony and praise God using a variety of concepts. The students chose the hymns they would sing, discussed how to sing them, then practiced and performed.

“Through this class, students learned more realistically how to praise God with one mind and one heart. Also, they felt that the singing was not just singing, but the praise with the Holy Spirit since the people who received the most grace were themselves,” Pastor Mifa commented. “Most of them testified that they don’t know why but they did a very good job gracefully.”

Grades 6-8 focused on practicing reading music and learning musical instruments. “Just as you can get a lot of information by reading books well, they can also learn and master more songs by reading a sheet music well,” Pastor Mifa stated.

The performances consisted of:

6th Grade: My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean

7-8th Grade Recorder: Aura Lee

7-8th Grade Choir: This Is My Father’s World

9th-10th Grade

  1. There Is Power in the Blood
  2. Be Strong in the Lord
  3. You Raised Me Up

Olivet Academy is thankful to God for improving the students’ skills through this semester and hopes that they will always praise God with joy and gratitude.
