Olivet Academy in Amenia provides students with meaningful opportunities to explore science through engaging classroom lessons and hands-on activities. By connecting scientific concepts to real experiences, students are encouraged to ask questions, observe closely, and think critically about the world around them—deepening not only their understanding of science, but also their appreciation for God’s creation.
Over the past two weeks, students in grades 6 through 8 participated in a variety of interactive science lessons. Eighth-grade students investigated how temperature affects dissolving time by conducting an experiment using lollipops. Seventh graders closely observed moss under microscopes while studying nonvascular plants, gaining insight into the intricate design of nonvascular plant life. Sixth-grade students used cookies as models to learn about plate tectonics, helping them visualize how Earth’s plates move and interact beneath the surface.
Through these lessons, students developed a greater curiosity about the natural world and a deeper sense of gratitude for the order and complexity found in God’s creation. Olivet Academy continues to foster an environment where learning encourages both academic growth and thoughtful reflection, helping students recognize the beauty and purpose woven into the world around them.
