Students from Olivet Academy recently participated in an exciting and educational field trip to the historic Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park, New York, as a practical extension of their Social Studies curriculum.

The two-day excursion took place on Thursday, May 28, for Middle School students, and Friday, May 29, for 9th and 10th-grade students, with everyone departing at 8:30 a.m. and returning to school by 3:00 p.m.

During the visit, students were guided through the grand estate, where they observed the opulent architecture, ornate dining halls, historic artifacts, and impressive skylights that define America’s Gilded Age.

Following the interior mansion tour, the groups explored the sprawling estate grounds, gathered under the historic trees, and enjoyed the scenic, sweeping views overlooking the Hudson River.

This immersive experience allowed students to connect their classroom lessons to real-world history, giving them a deeper understanding of the economic and cultural dynamics of the late 19th century.

Olivet Academy extends a warm thank you to the faculty chaperones, the National Park Service guides, and all the participating students for making this field trip a wonderful success.
