Olivet Academy held its 8th Anniversary service on September 9, 2024 with a theme from Proverbs 3:5-6, urging trust in the Lord, not ourselves, so that we can walk on His straight path.
School leaders shared grace, prayers, and messages of blessing. Among the speakers were Principal Jenyan Khor, Middle and High School Director P. John Vivian, board member P. Joanna Bartovic and Elementary School Director P. Claire Mendoza who presided.
After the opening prayer, there were two performances from Elementary and Middle-High students who worshipped with performances set to music. Staff had also prepared an anniversary cake for a ceremony after the service. Anniversary treats were shared with students later in the day.
Sermon by P. John Vivian
In the message, Middle and High School Director P. John Vivian reflected on the theme
from Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all
your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
He recalled the example of trust in God that Jesus showed as faced the cross in the Garden of Gethsemane. P. John said that although Jesus asked the Father if there was another way, he chose to rely on God.
Jesus was actively choosing to trust God in this moment … even when the darkest hour was in front of him,” he said. He added that trust can involve even agonizing prayer as we commit to trust in the Lord.
“We see how that trust was rewarded. God was victorious on the cross, overcame everything and showed all of us what happens when we trust in him perfectly, he said.
Words of Blessing by Principal Jenyan Khor
“In a world that is rapidly changing, the foundation of Christ-centered education is more important than ever. Our hope is not in the fleeting trends of this world, but in the eternal truths of the gospel.
“Our prayer is that in the years to come, this institution will continue to be a beacon of light, shaping young lives to be courageous, compassionate and Christ-like leaders in whatever field they are called to serve.”
Words of Blessing by Board member P. Joanna Bartovic
“We can testify about His immeasurable grace and faithfulness,” she said. “We are thankful to each and everyone of you here today, for the valuable contribution you make ensuring that school continues to develop and to grow.”
“Teachers and staff, your patience and sincere devotion with hard work and love brought upon our students is deeply appreciated. In addition, to every student here, Olivet
Academy exists for you. It is our prayer and hope that your years here will be truly enriching and fulfilling both spiritually as well as academically.
Late she added: “I hope we can inherit the faith of the ancestors and reveal it each day in our lives and be the school that stands on the promises of God and in Him who reveals plans for the school and individually and bring honor and glory to God’s name.”
After the anniversary service, faculty, board members, and staff came together for the ceremonial cake-cutting, followed by a group photo session. Additionally, goody bags and cake were distributed to all attendees as part of the celebration.
