On November 12-13, school leaders from Olivet Academy Amenia attended “RISE Conference 2025” for New York state religious and independent school educators, a one-and-half day gathering hosted by NYSED and education partners from across the state.
This year’s conference featured updates on NYSED policies and resources, as well as keynote addresses and breakout seminars covering a wide range of topics-including grant opportunities, school culture, project-based learning, AI-supported lesson planning, differentiated assessment strategies, and more.
P. John Vivian, Boarding Director of Middle High School, gained valuable information on grant opportunities and potential funding sources available to Christian schools. He also gathered practical insights on cultivating a healthy school culture, navigating challenging situations with wisdom, and identifying useful AI tools and student information systems that can enhance the efficiency of school administration.
Director Ms.Jamie Pan, whose work centers on ESL program and instructional strategies, engaged in meaningful discussions with educators from around the state and learned about new approaches, digital tools, and classroom practices. Her most significant takeaway was learning how to design detailed, standards-aligned lesson plans using AI-integrating biblical principles, scaffolded strategies for multilingual learners, and assessment components tailored for high school ELA and ELL students.
One of the most memorable highlights occurred at the end of Day 1, when Christian school leaders gathered for a special fellowship session. Leaders shared openly about their challenges, including financial pressures and teacher retention. Representatives from Olivet Academy had the opportunity to connect with the ACSI Regional Director and build relationships with other Christian school leaders in attendance.
This time of gathering also became a moment of deep unity and spiritual support. Toward the end of the session, the leaders joined in prayer for a fellow Christian school – an institution with a 144-year history – now facing possible closure in January due to financial struggles. It was a moving moment, as hearts were united in seeking God’s miracle, grace, and guidance during this difficult season.
Overall, the school leaders from Olivet Academy returned renewed in mind and spirit. The conference offered valuable opportunities to reflect on school operations, leadership, curriculum, and instructional practices. We pray that the insights and resources gained will be applied effectively in the current and upcoming school year, strengthening the school and fostering the growth of our students in every dimension.
