This school year, Olivet Academy Amenia introduced the Duolingo English Test (DET) as part of its annual language assessment process for English Language Learners (ELLs).
Throughout the spring semester, students participated in DET preparation sessions and completed the online English proficiency exam. For many students, this was their first experience taking a high-level online language assessment with updated technical requirements and strict testing procedures.
To support students, the ESL department provided study groups and practice sessions focused on language skills, test strategies, and technical readiness. Teachers and staff also worked closely with students to encourage confidence and reduce test anxiety throughout the process.
Despite technical challenges and the pressure of multiple standardized tests this spring, students demonstrated patience, perseverance, and maturity during the testing period.
The DET experience provided students with opportunities not only to strengthen their English skills, but also to develop responsibility, adaptability, and confidence under pressure.
Olivet Academy is thankful for the dedication of its teachers, staff, and families who supported students throughout the testing season. Most of all, the school is proud of the students for continuing to grow through both challenges and achievements.
