Students at a local middle and high school participated in an earthquake drill on Friday, April 5th, with the aim of enhancing their preparedness for potential seismic events. The drill commenced promptly at 2:10 pm following a concise 5-minute explanation of the protocol.

The procedure, which adhered to established safety guidelines, consisted of three fundamental steps:

  1. Drop Where You Are: Upon hearing the alarm, students immediately dropped to their hands and knees, a crucial initial response to minimize the risk of injury.
  2. Cover Your Head and Neck: Following the drop, students covered their heads and necks with one arm and hand, providing vital protection against falling debris.
  3. Hold On Until the Shaking Stops: Remaining in the covered position, students held on until the shaking ceased, ensuring their safety until the all-clear signal was given.

Despite this being the first earthquake drill conducted at the school, students demonstrated exemplary participation and adherence to the protocol. Their proactive engagement in the drill reflected a collective commitment to safety and preparedness in the face of unforeseen natural disasters.

Middle and High School Director P. John expressed satisfaction with the students’ response, emphasizing the importance of such drills in fostering a culture of preparedness within the school community. “It’s heartening to see our students take their safety seriously,” stated Middle and High School Director P. John. “Their exemplary behavior during today’s drill demonstrates their readiness to respond effectively in the event of an earthquake.”

Student feedback following the drill was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing confidence in their ability to react appropriately during an actual earthquake. “Even though it was our first time, the drill was straightforward, and I feel much more prepared now,” remarked one student.

The successful execution of the earthquake drill underscores the school’s commitment to prioritizing student safety and preparedness. Through regular training exercises such as these, students and staff alike are better equipped to navigate potential emergencies, ensuring a secure learning environment for all.
